Es un procedimiento de reproducción asistida para mejorar la fertilidad o prevenir problemas genéticos.
Consiste en recolectar óvulos maduros provenientes de los ovarios para ser fecundados con los espermatozoides en un laboratorio -in vitro-, con el fin de obtener embriones (óvulos fecundados) para ser implantados al útero y dar lugar al embarazo.
El procedimiento in vitro es un método efectivo de reproducción asistida, ya que, a decisión del paciente, puede utilizar sus propios óvulos y espermatozoides de su pareja, o también, utilizar ambos, bien sea, de un donador desconocido o anónimo.
Al realizar los cinco pasos, se obtiene un proceso satisfactorio para el éxito del embarazo:
1. Estimulación (Superovulación): A la mujer se le administran ciertos medicamentos para la fertilidad para incrementar la producción de óvulos.
2. Retiro del Óvulo: Se lleva a cabo una cirugía menor(Aspiración Folicular) para retirar los óvulos del cuerpo de la mujer.
3. Inseminación y Fecundación: El espermatozoide del hombre se coloca junto con los óvulos de mejor calidad.
4. Cultivo del Embrión: Cuando el óvulo fecundado se divide, se convierte en un embrión. El personal de laboratorio lo vigilará regularmente para asegurarse de que esté creciendo de manera apropiada. En aproximadamente 5 días, el embrión tiene varias células que se dividen activamente.
5. Transferencia del embrión: Los embriones son transferidos al útero de la mujer de 3 a 5 días después del retiro y fecundación del óvulo.
¿En qué casos está indicado?
El método -in vitro- al ser realizado con esperma de la pareja o donante, permite facilitar el proceso de la fecundación cuando existen otras causas que la dificultan. Es recomendado para:
Mujeres después de haber tenido ciertos intentos de inseminaciones artificiales sin éxito
Mujeres de edad materna avanzada, con óvulos exiguos
Mujeres con trompas de Falopio obstruidas o lesionadas
Parejas donde el hombre presente esperma deficiente.
Ventajas de la Fertilización:
- Permite que las parejas infértiles puedan tener un bebé.
- Muchas posibilidades altas para la obtención de un embarazo por medio de la técnica.
- El tratamiento reduce la necesidad de realizar cirugía en las trompas de Falopio.
- Adquisición de información completa para detectar cualquier anomalía morfológica.
Importancia:
Este procedimiento permite procrear un bebé, llevando a cabo opciones satisfactorias a los pacientes y mujeres con dificultades.
